Royal Surfclub is an interdisciplinary initiative operating at the intersection of electronic music, underground culture, and contemporary art. Founded by Berk Duygun – BäRK, Surfclub develops context-driven events and experimental formats that shift between nightlife, ritual, spatial intervention, and digital media. With roots in both artistic and curatorial practice, Surfclub continuously explores how environments shape experience — from high-pressure basement programs to site-responsive exhibitions and hybrid narratives. Past locations include Grey Space, PIP, and Weelde in The Hague, as well as Operator and Poing in Rotterdam, and Kiosk Radio in Brussels.
On November 23rd come dance with us at our Naughty Boat Party with the biggest lineup of underground DJs to date.

ON THE 13th DECEMBER COME EXPERIENCE OUR 12 HOUR EVENT IN THE GREY SPACE IN THE MIDDLE.
A work/social intervention curated and installed by Berk Duygun, a social intervention, and dystopian situation artwork. Questioning a post-climate change dystopian world, what is still important for humankind, where do we meet, how do we meet, and what do we miss in our lives.
The complete work consists of a full exhibition of multiple artists and artworks, selected and curated by Berk Duygun in collaboration with many art & music initiatives from The Hague, Rotterdam and beyond, focused on the local international artist population.
As icing on the cake, a situational piece is placed in a basement. The experience is being in a six hour rave exposed to, instead of normal rave / nightclub aesthetic lights, a constant monochromatic light. Challenging the status quo of the nightlife scene, where individualism is inherent. By literally exposing everyone’s faces, presence and dance moves, and curating their placement surrounding the DJs, the work tried to connect people more while being indulged in almost ritualistic dancing. This was the first of many experiments with the monochromatic light on a ritualistic aspect and proved to unleash quite some energy and power when exposed to it for a long time with intent.
The basement (an otherwise visually known location for The Hague art and nightlife goer) was filled with 6 tons of sand, relating to the “Life After The Warm Up” concept, where humans would be inclined to artificially look up senses of nature, the sun (monochromatic light) and the nature in between the bare toes.

Questioning a post-climate change / post-covid dystopian world, what is still important for humankind, where do we meet, how do we meet, and what do we miss in our lives.
We have invited 6 different initiatives from different sides of the entire Netherlands, to meet at an in-between / digital version of the sand party: Life After the Warm Up 1.1: Core Digital
After being quiet, and not being able to organise those 16 hours Rave / Art parties as we used to, we wanted to hear the stories of different groups, initiatives that managed to be still active within those two years.
The legendary basement of the Grey Space in the Middle, which was filled with 6 tons of sand in the last event at 2019, will be transformed into a forum space with DJ sessions, talk shows, performative acts for two days straight.

Already having organised two flaming events at the Grey Space this year, on both 18th and 19th of March, Royal Surfclub is hitting the pedal to the metal, combining both the concepts of streaming events with a real rave party.
In this first streaming session where we will have the Grey Space’s basement open for you, all the DJ sets will be live streamed on Maxi Radio.
For this new concept, we have invited 5 initiatives from different cities, together with their resident DJs, and as always KABK IMD Crew for their VJ performances.
We are thrilled to invite to one of the most unique event we ever hosted: to a synthetic, futuristic dystopia. Which both the Grey Space, and Royal Surfclub is going to push the boundaries of the gallery space.
There will be many first times prepared just for you:
Music on BOTH floors, until 05:00 o’clock, both floors will be pitch dark.
All night long SILENT DARK DISCO at the entrance floor, live AI VJ’ing coded by Leo Scarin,
Proper light shows / installations, prepared by RAZ of Rotterdam, and smoke machines on BOTH FLOORS,
“Bergain”, a high tech cocktail which is designed by The Grey Space & Royal Surfclub, exclusively made for this night,
DJ booths will be prepared as nearly as it can get to art installations,
Pushing the maximum guest capacity as Grey Space & Royal Surfclub,
+12 DJs
We humbly & kindly invite you to a different world, to a future that we all are afraid to live in, to go trough an all night long catharsis together.
While we are improving our technology and science in a rapid speed, the quality of our lives is in a downward spiral, along with the society itself. Are we forgetting the soul here, while we are turning ourselves into high-tech beings.
This edition of Royal Surfclub is dedicated to William Gibson’s life changing novel Neuromancer, inspired directly by his Night City, and the dark, despotic world that he has been created.
